Whether you live in Wyoming or you’re out of town looking for a challenge, you should come down to the Wyoming wilderness if you want a hiking experience like no other. Just print out some directions, lock up, turn on the ADT home security if you got it, and saddle up for an experience you won’t soon forget. I have also created a small list of things to consider before you take your journey.

1. Get some comfortable boots – Preferably you are going to want some durable, comfortable and, most of all, water proof boots. Make sure you put them on and take a light hike or walk before you take them to Wyoming. Just to break them in.

2. Long sleeves and pants – I know this sounds ridiculous, especially in the heat, but which is worse – sweating a little or catching Lyme disease? Long sleeves can also help protect your skin from the sun and will help conserve your body’s heat in case of an emergency.

3. Bring plenty of water – This one seems pretty obvious but can’t be stressed enough. Be sure and bring plenty of water for your trip because you can’t drink what’s flowing all around you. Too many chances of it being infected.

As the time to hit the slopes approaches, skiers and snow boarders will be out on the fluffy white stuff, taking advantage of the cold and snow while they can. It is important that everyone remembers courtesy for one another to make it an enjoyable experience for all. As boarders and skiers take to the trails, there is proper etiquette to follow for safety and to share the mountain in an amicable way. Most importantly, everyone needs to be aware of everyone around them and be in control, able to stop in the event of any unexpected obstacle or when another person inadvertently crosses the path. It is also important to yield to others, stay visible, and make sure a landing area is clear before attempting it. When getting ready to go on the lift, it is important to keep moving, not stop and chat or wait for others to catch up. It is appropriate to wait for friends in another area and not hold up others. Let others know when the bar is coming down and move away quickly. People shouldn’t zigzag and keep the trail solely to themselves. Also, be careful when passing those who are going slowly.

Grand Teton National Park is not just a winter wonderland; it’s a Winter Health Spa. Picture sparkling, blinding, white slopes and a sky bluer than anything you have ever seen in any city. The contrast takes your breath away and leaves you wanting more. You begin to rejuvenate. To cross-country ski through pristine forests to a snow-surrounded stream, dotted with snow-covered rocks, gives you a feeling that this place has been disturbed by neither man nor Mother Nature for eons. You feel your heart lifting. As you snowshoe across a field, to surprise a moose just stepping out to graze, you think you and he are the only creatures on the earth. Rabbit tracks in the snow remind you otherwise. Deep in your soul, you connect with the Earth.

When solitude and tranquility have healed you, join friends and family downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and sledding. Perhaps someone has even arranged a horse-drawn sleigh ride. If it starts to snow or blow, find your way into a rustic mountain lodge, build a fire, make some hot chocolate, and make some friendships that will last forever. Life’s worries no longer exist. You rediscover what a real social network is. You leave refreshed. You’re ready to change the world.

There are three main types of bait: live, prepared or artificial. Which kind you use depends on what time of year it is, where you are fishing (streams, ponds, rivers, or the ocean), and the kind of fish that you’re trying to catch.
When using live bait, many prefer just to purchase it. Still, a lot of fisherman like getting their bait the fun way on a wet lawn at night, looking around compost piles, exploring campsites, or scanning boat launches or campsites. They find earthworms, grasshoppers, flies, crickets, minnows, shad, crayfish, and frogs.
There are other fisherman who prefer to use prepared bait. Kernal corn, hotdogs, bread balls, cheese balls, chicken entrails, baked potato pieces and salmon eggs are a few popular examples. Many feel that prepared bait isn’t as good as live, but catfish, carp, and trout are a few fish frequently lured by using it.
Minnows are also used a lot by pros. These are small, freshwater eurasion cyprinoids that are used in the names of many freshwater fishes like mudminnows or topminnows. You can used real or artificial minnows as bait, and they are used a lot to catch chub, golden shiner, and fathead or bluntnose minnows.

Wyoming is the least populated state in the USA and has long been known as a sportsman’s paradise. The eastern third of the state is made up of high grassy plains and is home to large populations of pronghorn antelope. The western two thirds rise into majestic mountains forested with pine and cut up by an abundance of rivers, lakes and streams and is the habitat of deer, elk, moose and bear.

For the fisherman, Wyoming has endless opportunities and the crystal clear mountain lakes and flowing rivers offer some of the best angling on earth. For the flyfisherman, Wyoming hosts five species of trout and the cutthroat, brook, lake, rainbow and browns can be found in good populations. Other popular species include walleye, grayling, whitefish and pike.

Some of the best fishing is within the boundaries of Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Shoshone National parks. The Yellowstone and Snake rivers have deep pools amid smoking hot springs and along their entire lengths offer great angling and the Gallatin, Lewis and Green river drainages allow the angler to get away from the crowds. Yellowstone and Jackson lakes offer anglers a variety of species amid the most beautiful scenery on the planet.
